Overview
4/5
This product is an excellent alternative to petroleum-based jellies and salves. It works wonders on dry, cracked joints and worn feet, providing a thick layer of insulating moisture that makes for a perfect post-shower, pre-bed moisturizer. However, it is quite greasy and takes time to soak in.
Packaging
4/5
The small tin makes this product easy to carry around in your bag during those dryer months. The large lid allows you to scoop out exactly how much you’ll need and make the most of the entire jar. The metal is thin, though, and is prone to denting.
Application
4/5
This product smooths on easily, but leaves a greasy film on your palms. Fortunately it’s easy enough to massage any excess product into dry hands, especially over the knuckles.
Daily Longevity (How many hours will this product be effective?)
4/5
You can expect to enjoy the moisture of this product for 4-6 hours after application.
Product Longevity (How many uses will this product last?)
4/5
This product is so versatile that it’s lifespan varies greatly depending on the manner and frequency of use. I would expect it to last anywhere from 2 months to a year, give or take.
Price
4/5
Like most Lush products, Ultrabalm is on the pricier side at $13.95 per 1.4oz tin, but I have found the cost to be worthwhile.
Pigmentation
5/5
Ultrabalm is a pale yellow color prior to application, but leaves no color once applied to the skin.
Fragrance
3/5
The smell of this product is quite neutral.
Who is this product for? What are its best uses?
This product is so incredibly versatile that it can be used for everything from smoothing fly-aways to reviving tired and cracked heels. It adds extra moisture wherever you need it! Some of it’s best uses include moisturizing chapped lips, soothing dry knuckles, and even preventing harsh chafing between thighs.
Misc.
Although the price is more than you’d pay at the drugstore for a jar of petroleum jelly, this salve is more versatile for hair, skin, and nails, ideal for vegans due to it’s plant-based ingredients, and is manufactured by hand by one of the most ethical cosmetic companies in the industry. I’d say it’s worth the few extra bucks.
Conclusion
Whether you’re looking for something to manage your sore knuckles in the dry winters or something to make a hike in your short-shorts a little more bearable, there’s room for Ultrabland in just about anyone’s cosmetic routine.
